Equestrian portraits

A shift in perspective

Equestrian Portraits draws on a centuries-old visual tradition in which monarchs, military leaders and other figures of power were immortalised on horseback. The horse was more than a means of transportation: it was a vehicle of power, elevating the portrayed figure both literally and symbolically above the viewer. In this series, the rider remains, while the traditional horse gets replaced.
