”Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But since nobody was listening, everything must be said again”

— André Gide

about: Surreal cinemagraphs (moving photos) of The Hague. Magritte meditations is my personal photographic response to the work of the surrealist painter, René Magritte (Belgian 1898-1967). When I began the Magritte series, my plan was to base each work on a specific painting. I started recreating the following works in black and white: “ The Castle of the Pyrenees” into “The Castle of Peace” and “The Looking glass” into “The Looking Gaze”.

My digital composites are build in Photoshop and After Affects. The photos and films of the sea and the Peace Castle I shot in The Hague and the rock + window I staged in my studio. As the series progressed, I started to continue in color and used 3D modeling software to recreate the work “The Mental Gaze” . In this series I used different colours and atmospheres to simulate different time frames, seasons and moods. Right now I feel more freedom to create my own compositions inspired by the vision of Magritte, but not less based on specific works.
